Nikon Uses YouBooth to Thank Their Customers

lady_gaga_lookalikeJust about every company (perhaps with the exception of the healthcare industry, but that’s another story!) says they appreciate their customers.  Most of this “appreciation” is really just advertising and lip service.  Few companies put any tangible effort into expressing their appreciation.

Nikon is a notable exception.  They put on a big bash in Arena, a renowned New York City nightclub, to not just tell, but show their customers how much they’re appreciated.

Smart marketers that they are, in addition to the huge party, everyone there got photos to take home.  And they did this with 5th Avenue Digital’s YouBooth photo booth.  Anyone at the party could stop by the booth and snap a photo of themselves – and just about everyone did!  Of course, the photos were branded with Nikon’s logo, further extending the connection of Nikon with Fun Party.

To maximize the photo booth fun, the YouBooth photos were projected onto a giant wall in the club in real time.  Everyone was able to see the photos as they were printed, which encouraged more people to participate and allowed everyone to share the laughs. Read the rest of this entry »

Promoting Britain with Photo Sharing

fouth_wall_events We’ve been talking about photo sharing, and how it’s becoming a more crucial element of corporate events.   This fact was illustrated yet again with a recent event produced by Fourth Wall Events.

First, it’s worth mentioning how much we love working with the Fourth Wall Events, one of New York’s most innovative event producers.  They always insert some kind of twist into what they do, adding details that make you stop and say, “Wow, that’s cool!”  For example, on their website they provide an event space calculator that helps you figure out how many people will fit in your space, or how much space you need to fit a certain number of people.  Check it out here! Tickled Pink Again This Year

komen center teens for a cureEvery year we are pleased to be a part of the Tickled Pink fundraiser, which is organized and chaired by teens in their fight against breast cancer.  The event has grown significantly since our first involvement three years ago.  It was started by a dear friend and past client Iris Dankner, with her daughter Niki, after Iris survived her ordeal with the disease.

Together, Iris and Niki created a unique opportunity for teens to learn about fundraising in general, while also supporting a cause they believe in.  The gala evening that Niki and the teens produce helps build awareness and celebrates life.  As the event has progressed over the years, it is now being overseen by The Susan G. Koman Center for a Cure, with the Dankners’ ongoing assistance and support.   Read the rest of this entry »

The Changing Landscape of Wedding Photography

Wedding photography is rapidly changing before our eyes.  While I knew this before attending WPPI, the annual Wedding & Portrait Photographer Conference in Las Vegas, absorbing what I learned there certainly underscored this fact.  With so many young talents rapidly entering the market, established photographers can stand out only by virtue of their experience, and how they use it to push the boundaries of their art.
The abundance of blogs and other media outlets for photographers to get their work published has provided a plethora of places looking for good content to brighten their pages. This phenomenon has infused the industry with fresh perspectives.  Not since Dennis Reggie gave way to the photojournalistic movement in weddings, back in the 80s, has there been such a radical shift in style.
High-end digital cameras have engendered a new style of shooting, which has brought an emerging category of stylized engagement shoots to the foreground.  Whether featuring a vintage aspect or some romantic romp in the city, this new type of shoot lends renewed excitement to the photographer, as well as the bride and groom looking to personalize their particular love story.
One of the hallmarks of this style seems to be the use of natural light – or in my terms, lack of good lighting equipment!  This is where real, hard-won experience pays off, and where the true artists separate themselves from the pack of newbies.
Every year, I look forward to seeing the work of the established players in the field and what they are able to do with their artistic passion. There is no denying technique and the gorgeous results these masters deliver for their wedding clients.  This is clearly seen in the competition sponsored by the conference.  An annual highlight, the competition allows photographers to submit images for judging by their community.  It’s sort of like a wedding and portrait photographers’ Oscars.
Not being a photographer myself, I’m able to fully appreciate the artistry and expertise that goes into taking some of these images.  These are not the editorial-style images seen in blogs and brides magazines, but photographs taken by skilled masters of real people in real-time life situations.
I am proud to be representing some of these masters at 5th Avenue Digital, and to watch our long-established photographers incorporate these new trends.  It is our goal to represent a wide range of talent and creative options, at price points suitable for almost any wedding budget.  In my next post, I will introduce our newest addition, Alan Weiner, and showcase the exceptional work our established photographers are doing that reflect this modern, fresh style.
