Wednesday Wedding Wisdom: Tips for Making Your Shot List

July 25th, 2012 by | Share Blog

wedding photojournalism - 5th avenue social Preparing a shot list for your wedding day? Keep in mind that a top photographer already knows to capture all the tried-and-true key moments, family members, candids, and personal details for you and works best when given the creative freedom to do his or her best job.  However, if there are any not-so-typical shots you’d like to have, it’s a good idea to meet with your photographer to discuss them. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Your college roommates
  • Dad and his four sisters
  • You and your babysitter
  • Mom and her tennis buddies

Be sure to point out anything unusual that the photographer might not expect. If there are divorces in the bridal party, or members with disabilities or special needs, you’ll want to be conscientious in apprising your photographer so that shots can be scheduled with this in mind.

Discussing your personal shot list with your photographer is a guaranteed way of not missing a single beautiful moment of your wedding day.

Green Screen Success

July 23rd, 2012 by | Share Blog

5th Avenue Digital’s green screen photography is more popular than ever!  We’ve seen lots of different ways green screen photography is used, and some ways are more effective than others.  A top tip we give our clients is to use a background image people can interact with.  That makes for the most fun photos.  We recently provided green screen photography for a Spiderman movie screening sponsored by Goldman Sachs, which illustrates this beautifully.  Check it out!

Wedding Wednesday Wisdom with Photographer Jesse Anders

July 18th, 2012 by | Share Blog

wedding photographyYou may recall Jesse Anders’s beautiful work for the Marks-Aruti wedding at Bridgewaters featured a few weeks ago.  Jesse makes it all seem effortless, but it takes great skill to deliver such natural and uncontrived photographs.  The hook for Jesse is connecting what’s seen with what’s felt: the ecstatic moment in the middle of a dance, with friends whirling round the bride and groom –caught! Picking out the Louboutin soles with the selective b&w shot in Central Park…very cheeky, and perfect.  Jesse talks a bit about his unique style and why he absolutely loves being a part of the happiest moments of his client’s lives.

What is the chief characteristic of a memorable photo?

For me, a photograph is most memorable when it captures a moment in time that is emotional and powerful to begin with. To be able to hold that moment in your hand as a photograph is nothing short of amazing!  As a photographer, it is important to me that I am not forcing a photograph into existence. Yes, a “beautiful” photo can be constructed, but a truly memorable photograph comes from a truly memorable moment. Read the rest of this entry »

Say YES to Engagement Photos with These Creative Uses

July 16th, 2012 by | Share Blog

wedding photographyBecause so many photos are taken on the wedding day, it’s easy to see why many couples decide that engagement photos are an unnecessary expense.  But there are many good reasons to get engagement photos and a number of uses for them.

  • Usually, wedding photographers get only 20 or 30 minutes alone with the couple on the big day. An engagement session gives the couple a chance to practice being in front of the camera and develop a working relationship with the photographer, creating a greater level of comfort on the wedding day.
