Lately, green screen photography has become more in-demand for events. In taking on these projects we’ve found new ways to use green screen technology that yields big benefits for our clients. Here’s a run-down of some of these innovations that may spark ideas for your events.

For St. Joseph’s Hospital gala at the Museum of Natural History, they wanted to break away from the usual “stand and smile” portrait photo, and offer something a little different. Playing off the location, we created a green screen photography background using a photo of one of the dioramas at the museum. We got off-hour access to the museum, and took a number of photos of various dioramas. This in itself is tricky to do, because the photos have to be taken outside the dioramas, requiring careful and meticulous lighting. Done properly, the results were fantastic: a green screen background that put the subjects right into the diorama!

It was a big hit with the gala attendees.

You can see more of them by clicking here:

We also created a way to enable St. Joseph’s Hospital to provide their gala guests with a print as a gift, and to make additional donations with each additional print they order. But I’ll save these details for another blog post. Today I’m all about green screen photography!

Another creative green screen application was used for two events tied-ins with Rolling Stone Magazine. The first was held at Santos Party House , produced by the creative folks at Relevent, Inc. and sponsored by Heineken. They used props to maximum advantage, as you can see for yourself: This is branding at its best: everyone walked away with a really fun photo of themselves, on the cover of Rolling Stone, with the Heineken logo embedded as part of the image and the experience.

The second Rolling Stone event was produced by the magazine’s event staff, to help promote the launch of a new fragrance called Ecko, by designer Mark Ecko. We set up a portrait station with green screen in Macy*s at Roosevelt Field Mall, and anyone buying the fragrance received their picture on the cover of Rolling Stone as a gift. The client was so thrilled with this execution of branding as merchandising, they’re considering repeating the promotion in Chicago and other major markets.

Another event at the Museum of Natural History was produced by Kaleidoscope for HP in conjunction with the launch of Microsoft Windows 7. They took a more product-oriented approach for their green screen photography, but without sacrificing any of the fun or keepsake-quality. Lots of green screen uses, all achieving different marketing and PR goals, all directly communicating to their customer base. That’s the power of the green screen and green screen photography!

PR and Marketing Agencies are using onsite digital photography as a way to give their clients a return on investment and as a way to bring the brand into the home to keep people thinking about the event and the brand after they leave.

Onsite digital photography and green screen technology bring the brand home

Expensive commercials are being vetoed. Exorbitant ad budgets are a thing of the past. Guerilla marketing is the answer. Guerrilla marketing relies on imagination rather than big marketing budgets. And imagination can take a branding event and turn it into a lasting memory. That’s what onsite digital photography and green screen technology can do.

As more and more companies demand multi-dimensional media plans, agencies are looking for creative wa

ys to accomplish their goals. At Fifth Avenue Digital, we provide the expertise in onsite digital photography to transform an event into a branding opportunity with legs. We create custom screen images with company logos, brand

messaging, and exciting backdrops. We take pictures of the attendees, print them, and frame them right at the event. Attendees go home with a unique memento of the event complete with company branding and our production team managed the project from beginning to end.

Giving attendees a branded memento to take home extends the life of the event.

The Spray n’ Wash event at Grand Central Terminal

Last month, Illinois-based JSH&A Public Relations and Empire Force Events staged a morning of “tips on color retention” under a quarter-mile of laundry hung in Grand Central Terminal to promote its new Bright & White spray.

At the two-hour event, consumers lined up to have their photo taken in front of a T-shirt that said, “I listened to my clothes at Grand Central!” on a stage set strung with laundry lines. Fifth Avenue Digital provided the background design, photographer and onsite digital photography team. Everything went off without a snag. The agency was happy, their client was happy and the attendees had a wonderful time!

The Huggies’ Pull-Ups Event at the Helen Mills Theatre

Earlier this month, Fifth Avenue Digital again provided digital photography with green screen technology for the Edelman Brand Experience event featuring Huggies’ Pull-Ups. The “Pull-Ups Potty Dance” featured story time for kids and a disco dance floor complete with mirrored ball and fun music to dance to. Moms and kids had their pictures taken, which were printed with the Huggies’ Pull-ups logo and set in a branded frame right at venue.

The event gave moms and toddlers the opportunity to engage in active play while learning more about Huggies’ Pull-ups. Brand exposure and product information was delivered in the process. And, the brand message was the taken home as a photo memento.

The children were definitely the stars, and the event was a great hit with the moms, with the team at Edelman Brand Experience and with their client.

The consumers at the events for Spray ‘n Wash and Huggies happily participated and the photos that they took home will help keep the fun and the brand messages alive long afterwards.
