The trend is actually not so new. As stated in the article, it started about nine years ago. I’ve been seeing it around for years and in fact, appears to be fading off, as trends do.

In the interim it’s evolved, as you point out, to where some merely ruin the dress taking pictures along the way, but those more artistic photographers creating wonderful aesthetics taking advantage of how the dress need not stay pristine, can incorporate the bride into some pretty stunning imagery.
