Say YES to Engagement Photos with These Creative Uses

July 16th, 2012 by | Share Blog

wedding photographyBecause so many photos are taken on the wedding day, it’s easy to see why many couples decide that engagement photos are an unnecessary expense.  But there are many good reasons to get engagement photos and a number of uses for them.

Here are some reasons you should consider scheduling an engagement session with your wedding photographer:

  • Usually, wedding photographers get only 20 or 30 minutes alone with the couple on the big day. An engagement session gives the couple a chance to practice being in front of the camera and develop a working relationship with the photographer, creating a greater level of comfort on the wedding day. East Village Engagement Shoot

May 29th, 2012 by | Share Blog

5th avenue digital images by david nicholasThere is nothing more effective or fun than an engagement shoot to allow a photographer to establish rapport with a couple before their Big Day.  This is where their personality as a couple really shines through.  No time pressure, just the couple, the photographer and assistant – and sometimes, a furry-haired companion.

Alicia and Eric had a picture perfect day for their shoot in the East Village with our photographer David Nicolas.  David enjoyed himself so much that david nicholas for 5th avenue digitalhe stayed up late processing the job after a full day of shooting the couple, so he could see how awesome the shots looked. Some engagement stories just draw you right in.  Like the one where the smitten boyfriend rents out the entire Rockefeller Center ice skating rink so it’s private when he gets on bended knee.  And the proposal where the entire family is secretly gathered to share in the celebration right after she said yes.  Every engagement scenario is special and unique.  We feel honored when we’re allowed to document the visceral energy that glows from a newly-engaged couple. The Ultimate New York Engagement

January 5th, 2012 by | Share Blog

Lots of engagements take place in New York City, but rarely do you see an engagement like the one we covered over Thanksgiving.  An inventive man from Canada was determined to propose in a truly memorable and impressive way while he and his girlfriend were in New York.  So he decided to rent out the Rockfeller Center Skating Rink and propose on the ice, beneath the glittering Christmas tree and holiday crowds.

The day before the proposal, the groom-to-be realized that this momentous life occasion should be photographed. He turned to his concierge at the W Hotel for a photography recommendation, and found his way to us.  We were able to provide an exceptional photographer at the last minute, and the couple’s special moment was captured.  The results are magical – take a look!

Engagement Moments to Remember and Photograph!

January 11th, 2011 by | Share Blog

5th_avenue_digital_engagement_photosThis holiday season, we had the privilege of photographing two marriage proposals, both different in style and circumstance but similar in romanticism.  Men, take note!  Here are two ways to really bowl over your intended.

The men behind these proposals spent hours (and considerable expense) carefully planning their engagement occasion to awe and amaze their beloveds.  Both women were successfully bowled over and both said yes!  Both marriage proposals were planned as part of a New Year holiday trip to New York City each couple had planned.  In both cases, we worked long distance to execute exactly the engagement scenario that each man wanted to create.

One proposal was done outdoors in Central Park.  “Ron’s” fiancé-to-be didn’t even know our photographer was there, because Ron wanted to present the photo as a surprise gift afterwards.  Our photographer found the couple at a pre-determined spot in the park, positioned herself well away from them and had an assistant with her to act as decoy.

We got some beautiful photos, made all the better in their naturalness and spontaneity because the photographer’s presence wasn’t felt.  The couple’s joy and happiness is palpable in their photos!  After the proposal, our photographer rush-processed the shots, chose one to print, and had the framed photo delivered to the couple’s hotel by the next day.
