Mitzvah Monday: Brett’s Bat Mitzvah

November 20th, 2017 by | Share Blog

At 5th Avenue Digital we strive to capture events, to create priceless memories that will last a lifetime. At Brett’s Bat Mitzvah, we were able to snap countless photographs that all friends and family members will cherish for years to come. This surreal day began at Village Temple where Brett and her close family came to support her as she became a Bat Mitzvah. After years of learning, and countless hours of preparation, Brett read the Torah with both elegance and grace. Throughout the service, the hard work that Brett was able to carry as a young woman was extremely evident.

After the service, Brett’s family headed to the waterfront where they began to prepare for the upcoming festivities.t. Located on The Alexandria Center, Apella is an innovate event space that lends itself to extravagant, and exciting parties.

The celebration began and Brett’s friends and family couldn’t wait to congratulate and celebrating together. Brett’s dress, decorated with blue feathers the bottom half, matched the centerpieces on the tables. They were filled with fun, colored candy, accompanied by long navy blue feathers that reached out the top.  The beautiful floral arrangements filled all tables, varying in size and colors, bringing so much energy to the venue. The florist, By Yena, is a highly acclaimed designer who did nothing but impress all who were in attendance.

Filled throughout the room, from the television screens to the fondant topping to the cupcakes, was a “b” taking the form of the“Beat by Dre” logo. There was certainly no lack of a “beat” throughout this party. Both the children and adults were hardly off the dance floor, with exception to having a delicious bite to eat.

Brett and her family served their guests a wide array of food.  There was sushi, delicious paninis, decadent macaroni and cheese and more. For dessert, there was s’mores and oreo pies, a collection of cakes, and the crowd favorite: an extensive candy bar. There was no doubt about the inevitable sugar rush in the near future. As the night began to wind down Brett held her candle lighting ceremony. She thanked and gave her appreciation to all her loved ones through individual speeches and handpicked songs as they joined her in lighting a candle.

Brett’s Bat Mitzvah was an incredible milestone and an amazing celebration. 5th Avenue Digital was lucky enough to have the opportunity to capture this through photos as memories frozen in time, to always remind the family of such a wonderful event.

Wedding Wednesday: Erica & Derek

November 15th, 2017 by | Share Blog

For Erica & Derek, their story begins before they even knew one another. The couple both studied and received their undergraduate degrees from Cornell University. However, they did not know one throughout their undergraduate career. In fact, they were connected through a mutual friend, on a ski trip in Idaho in the years to come. When the time came, Derek proposed to Erica amidst a hike overlooking the scenic Washington State while vacationing together.

Prior to the wedding, the couple was able to take breathtaking photos on the High Line in New York City. The beautiful city backdrop exhibited the liveliness and energy that the couple carries. Both Erica & Derek value their families and friends with the highest regard and were sure to make their wedding an event to remember for everyone they love. Their venue, La Sierra Restaurant was a picturesque place for the couple to celebrate their marriage. With subtle, modern decor, Erica & Derek followed that theme as they decorated the venue with simple, blush flowers. The restaurant, connected to The Maritime Hotel, allowed the perfect relaxation and preparation in an ideal location in the hours leading up to the ceremony.

The ceremony carried an extremely romantic ambiance with flowers lining the aisle, and dim lighting illuminating the venue. From the ceiling, the couple accessorized with string bulb lights, creating a welcoming and magical night for everyone in attendance. Family and friends could not hide their smiles from the vows, to the toasts. Live music rang throughout the night making the dance floor more and more crowded as the night grew on. The guests enjoyed a delicious ravioli appetizer, followed by lamb and a delicious salmon entre. Desserts ranged from cupcakes to personal pies, filling everyone up to capacity.

The love and happiness throughout this event were palpable and we wish the best to the happy couple for their beautiful, exciting future that lays ahead of them.

Mitzvah Monday: Liv’s Enchanted Wonderland

August 7th, 2017 by | Share Blog

This Monday’s Mitzvah celebration showcases one of the most unique and intricately planned New York City Mitzvah’s we have photographed to date and we are so excited to share all the wonderful details with you!

Liv’s Mitzvah was straight out of a fairy-tale – an enchanted occasion that provided guests with a celebration of wonder and excitement. Liv’s lucky family and friends were welcomed into the Grand Hyatt, New York City with a stunningly designed floral wall which created the perfect, unique backdrop for some incredible portrait shots. The wall incorporated a concoction of blue tones (Liv’s favorite color) with pops of pink, matching perfectly with her navy gown and flower crown.

Making sure all her friends had a flower crown too, Liv had a station where guests could have their very own crown created with their favorite colors – creating a sea of flower crown magic on the dancefloor! The enchanted theme didn’t stop there – from fairy lights draped over the tables, to hand carved wooden, forest creatures on display, every inch of the venue reminded guests of Liv’s favorite things and her creative flare.

Our favorite table detail (and some seriously cool inspiration for anyone planning a Mitzvah) were the place cards and menus – they were in total keeping with the theme and the wording was delicately displayed on a gorgeous leaf design.

Liv’s Mitzvah is the perfect inspiration for anyone who is thinking of incorporating a unique and magical element to their upcoming Mitzvah celebration – enjoy these incredible photos from a truly memorable event.

May 22nd, 2013 by | Share Blog

Photographing a once-in-a-lifetime wedding can be pretty serious business, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of the unexpected, the humorous and the totally hysterical. Our professional wedding photographers at 5th Avenue Digital share some of their funniest moments.

Stavros Panopoulos

Stavros Panopoulos:  There have been many events that were funny, although the bride and groom’s opinion may differ, but one stands out that I think all can agree on. I was photographing a newlywed couple in Central Park after the wedding and Steven Tyler of the band Aerosmith walks in to photo bomb the shot. Everyone was delighted. The bride gave him a kiss on the cheek and he went on his way. (more…)

5th Avenue Digital Welcomes Photographer Amy Etra

May 8th, 2013 by | Share Blog

5th Avenue Digital PhotographyWhen Amy Etra was aspiring to be a cool hippie at her high school on Long Island, photography was the new cool art class so she signed right up, and got hooked.  Later she studied photojournalism at Boston University, moved to NYC and worked as a photo assistant in the exciting world of advertising.  In the 1980’s she moved to Los Angeles and became a national magazine portrait photographer, shooting celebrities and business leaders for Newsweek, Time, Forbes, USA Today and other top publications.  In 1999 she moved back east to Connecticut where she “fell” into the wedding biz when a photo editor at Business Week asked Amy to shoot her wedding on Block Island.  “Wow, it was the perfect  fit for me” Amy recalls. “Creative, fast paced, and all about photographing people and artsy details.”  Today Amy excels in wedding photography, engagement photography and bar mitzvah photography in addition to her corporate work.  Amy shares more of her thoughts with us.

How would you describe your signature style in five words?

5th Avenue Digital PhotographyMy style is: artistic, fun, creative, spontaneous, photojournalism.  My favorite photography expression is:  “Fortune Favors the Prepared Mind”  which is perfectly illustrated in my photo of Alex and her veil blowing.  I set her up with her bridesmaids on her street and all of a sudden a strong wind came up and I clicked.  But everything was in place already, location, lighting….and I got lucky..because I was prepared!!  Call it photographer’s luck, whatever.
