Wedding at The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park-5th Avenue DigitalAt a wedding last weekend at The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, the groom serenaded his partner with a flash-mob rendition of “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry. Wedding Wednesday Wisdom with Shawn Rabideau

June 13th, 2012 by | Share Blog

Talk about a turn of events!  This week’s featured expert was on his way to a career in journalism, when he decided it wasn’t for him.  During a short stint as a merchandiser at Pottery Barn, Shawn Rabideau found he had a knack for table decor and room design.  Soon, his talents were recognized and he jumped at an offer to do just that, full-time, in an event planning role.  It developed into such a passion that in 2004, Shawn decided to strike out on his own, founding New York-based Shawn Rabideau Events & Design, a full-service event production, floral design and lifestyle company.  With a long list of celebrity, corporate and charitable clients, Shawn’s had such success that he is considered one of today’s leaders in the event planning industry.  We couldn’t wait to wrangle a few precious minutes to sit down and chat about his experiences!

How has the industry changed since you started?

The internet, reality television and the economy have changed the industry.  There is more competition than there was before, brides believe what they see on TV and they are spending less and planning more on their futures than they are on the occasion.  I think we have to work a bit harder than we did a few years ago.  But I think it’s also super-rewarding! Photography for a Marriage of Color and Location

April 16th, 2012 by | Share Blog

5th qavenue digital event decorIt’s a rare and wonderful thing when a wedding’s theme, location and décor mesh perfectly to create a truly distinctive and memorable impression.  Shawn Rabideau, known as one of New York’s most innovative event planners and designers, demonstrated this perfectly at a recent wedding at Bridgewaters.

Playing off on Bridgewaters’ iconic New York location in the South Street Seaport area, Shawn paired the wedding couple’s signature colors of Spring Green, Dove Grey and Bright Orange with original artwork of the city’s landmark sites to create an impressively cohesive décor that everyone will remember.

5th_avenue_digital_event_decorAmong the notable elements: floral arrangements of orange roses combined with orchids and other exotic blooms; and original sketches of New York locations for each table, such as the Brooklyn Bridge (visible beautifully lit outside the windows of Bridgewaters), Bethesda Fountain, the Empire State and Flatiron Buildings, carried out on the escort cards and table candles.

Shawn Rabideau is a master of the details, and at this wedding those distinctive elements were used in unique ways to create an elegant and personal wedding style.  The photos tell the story, and they may give you some ideas of your own!

Nikon Uses YouBooth to Thank Their Customers

March 28th, 2011 by | Share Blog

lady_gaga_lookalikeJust about every company (perhaps with the exception of the healthcare industry, but that’s another story!) says they appreciate their customers.  Most of this “appreciation” is really just advertising and lip service.  Few companies put any tangible effort into expressing their appreciation.

Nikon is a notable exception.  They put on a big bash in Arena, a renowned New York City nightclub, to not just tell, but show their customers how much they’re appreciated.

Smart marketers that they are, in addition to the huge party, everyone there got photos to take home.  And they did this with 5th Avenue Digital’s YouBooth photo booth.  Anyone at the party could stop by the booth and snap a photo of themselves – and just about everyone did!  Of course, the photos were branded with Nikon’s logo, further extending the connection of Nikon with Fun Party.

To maximize the photo booth fun, the YouBooth photos were projected onto a giant wall in the club in real time.  Everyone was able to see the photos as they were printed, which encouraged more people to participate and allowed everyone to share the laughs. Read the rest of this entry »

Photographing a Gay Wedding

June 20th, 2010 by | Share Blog

gay wedding by shawn Rabideau eventsFrom our perspective, providing photography for a gay wedding is no different than photographing a wedding for any other male/female union.  Each wedding is unique – gay or not – but the wedding for Andrew and Rob stepped up the “different” factor to another level.  And our photographer really had to be her toes to capture all the fun.

The wedding for Andrew and Rob, planned and executed by Shawn Rabideau of Shawn Rabideau Events and Designs, was small and elaborate.  Their 75 guests came from around the world to celebrate at The Mandarin Oriental over Memorial Day weekend, with a full slate of activities.
